Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot

Well, that pretty much says it all, actually. Also known as Giant Robo,  an incredibly successful manga series with multiple spin-offs, the original series of 26 episodes began in 1969; it takes all the cake, eats it, digests it, and shits out gold; coming correct with horrific dub jobs, preposterous dialogue and plot-line, amateur special effects, music that makes no sense, virtually no women; suits are casual; one of the bad guys is a beatnik; and an invincible flying robot will do anything 12-year-old boy genius Johnny Sokko says into his little spy watch, which means he will duel monsters every single episode - satisfaction guaranteed.

Of course, Johnny is with the good guys: Unicorn. The bad guys, Gargoyle, are a communist-styled dictatorship run by an alien emperor named Guillotine. And yes, it is as awesome as it sounds. Thanks to the voodoo of hulu, you can see them all for free.

Pyrite Radio

So, I don't know if anyone noticed, but I finally missed a week and I'm late now. No, I'm not pregnant. I've just given up on posting every week. I'm not a professional nor do I ever want to be; why start now?

Klaus Dinger died last month. He was the drummer for legendary krautrock bands like Neu! and Kraftwerk, and credited as the main progenitor of the motorik beat, which he actually called an "apache beat." It's basically a 4/4 beat with some slight variations. It sounds simple and, well, it is. I don't want to give the beat too much credit, but most of the music I like uses it on occasion, and these occasions vary widely. Basically, it's pretty fucking important to underground rock, and he made it popular. Although Moe Tucker was perhaps a proto-motorik drummer, but she didn't really know what she was doing, so.

Anyway, I put together a mix of some examples of this beat's import and range and off-shoots. I'm working out this uploading situation so I have to do this on yousendit, which means it won't be up for long, but I'll figure something out soon.
