Saturday, June 7th

Holy shit. Domy Books of Houston just added an Austin location. They're having an opening this Saturday. The amazing people at PictureBox are putting together a blacklight series by amazing artists like Charles Burns, Gary Panter, Melissa Brown, and Paper Rad.
I'm going to assume that the image above is a preview of the blacklight works; don't they look amazing? If you know anything about these artists, you'll know you shouldn't miss this.
Oh, and the following Saturday, June 14, Gary Panter's going to be at Domy for a slideshow reading and signing copies of his new book, Gary Panter ($59.85 PictureBox). Yeah, okay, that's a damn expensive book but it's also massive. Two split volumes of 350 pages a piece make for a 700 page compendium of all that is... Gary Panter. He's one of the most important comic artists of the last thirty years, often called the godfather of punk comics; he designed the sets for Pee-Wee's Playhouse; and he'll be in Austin soon.
Also this Saturday, June 7, Okay Mountain is having an opening, and they're within walking distance of one another. Off-Register is a traveling exhibition of experimental printmaking by a bunch of artists I've never heard of, which is exciting.
This from their website:
"Each artist will present one print, produced in editions, that utilize and experiment with various traditional fine art printmaking techniques: serigraphy, lithography, etching, various transfer, block printing, as well as incorporating unconventional methods and experimental techniques of print impressions."
I can't express to you how excited I am about this. Such a great night for art in Austin rarely comes around. And I'm sure there will be plenty of free booze to fuel the party train.
The Famousish Party
Finally, after a night of high brow / low brow art and spirits, you should find your way to Orchid for Tres Chic, the second monthly Famousish party.

Bleach Online
I did an interview for the new issue of Bleach Online. Check it.
There's also a photo shoot of my friends Alex Gehring and Caleb Harmon. You might also know that Caleb is the "Businessman" at Candy & Cigarettes. If you didn't before, now you do.
Pyrite Radio
In case you haven't heard, Bo "Fucking" Diddley died. It's a little weird how much press his death has received, even with the death of Yves Saint Laurent on the same day - not because he doesn't deserve it, he does - but until yesterday, I couldn't even remember the last time I heard the Originator on the radio.
Any way you skin it, Bo Diddley was bad. His first band was called the Hipsters; he invented his own version of the syncopated beat; he wrote "Mona,"one of the best and most oft-covered rock 'n' roll songs in history; he played self-designed guitars shaped like cigar boxes; and he wrote this:
"I walked 47 miles of barbed wire,
I used a cobra snake for a neck tie.
I got a brand new house on the roadside,
Made out of rattlesnake hide.
I got a brand new chimney made on top,
Made out of a human skull.
Now come on darling let's take a little walk, tell me,
Who do you love?"

I've always wondered if "Roadrunner" by the Modern Lovers (arguably the first punk song) was meant as a nod to Diddley. But even if it wasn't, the man was punk as fuck before Jonathan Richman was born. Respect the truth. One.
Anyway, I'm glad there's been a lot of Diddley love lately. These are a bunch of my favs, along with some stuff I've been listening to and some other shit that seems somewhat relevant.
