Literary Vice
The new issue of Vice has an article about John Cheever's alcohol-drenched years at Boston University and subsequent stint in rehab. Prettay, prettay good.
I've never seen the film adaptation of his famous story "The Swimmer" but it looks horrific enough to be a great piece of camp. Who knows.
Also in the new issue: an enlightening interview with former Harper's editor and all around badass, Lewis Lapham. He hates Bush more than David Cross; he's an aristocrat who knows the Clintons are a bunch of phonies; and he has a new journal called Lapham's Quarterly. He's also one of my new idols.
And there are interviews with Howard Zinn, whose People's History of the United States is a must read, and David Wallechinski, who edited the landmark alternative almanac, The People's Almanac. I'm glad to know someone cares about leftist historical revisionism besides me.
Mike Judge Gossip Mill
It's rumored that Beavis and Butthead creator Mike Judge had an affair with Charles Bronson's daughter Katrina, and now she's with child while Judge files for divorce. Pretty krazy stuff. Don't ask me where I heard; I ain't tellin'.
Pyrite Radio
So people ask me all the time, "Reynard, how would you define pop music?" I'm just kidding. No one has ever asked me that question, but on the off chance someone does, I'll have eighteen answers.
I just discovered this crazy late 70s Japanese band, P-Model, so I have three of their amazing songs on here. There's also both sides of the somewhat rare Stranded in the Park 7" and a couple of Klaus Nomi jams.
